Surgical camera system
MDR Class IIa
Our client, a medical start-up founded by doctors, requested help to build the SW for a surgical camera. The camera they envisioned would act as a mobile unit (untethered) and record and cast the surgeon’s view onto a TV. Casting would allow everyone present in the OR to follow along with the procedure - having potentially wide-ranging benefits for patient outcomes and education.

Contribution
Thaumatec designed and developed the base system architecture and firmware for all devices as well as the hardware for the camera light. We are now developing the next product evolution which features new HW and FW for the headlight. We are also in the process of designing and developing samples for a custom video recording and streaming platform.
Solution
The device is a head camera specifically designed for use in surgical and general medical procedures. The system offers complete mobility and universal video distribution, be it inside or outside the operating theatre. The commercial solution was based on a prototype from the founders - we developed the FW on top. Currently, we are working on the next version, which will be evaluated by surgeons from the Medical University Hospital in Wroclaw.
